JinkoSolar Powers New Zealand’s First Grid-Scale Solar Farm with High-Efficiency TOPCon Modules
This project demonstrates the viability of large-scale solar in New Zealand, where weather conditions have traditionally posed challenges for PV deployment.
JinkoSolar, a global leader in solar technology, has supplied 28,000 high-efficiency BDV modules for New Zealand’s first grid-scale solar project—the 19.3MWdc Te Puna Mauri ō Omaru Solar Farm. Developed by Northpower, this landmark initiative is also the country’s first community-owned solar farm, marking a major milestone in New Zealand’s renewable energy transition.
Project Highlights

✔ Location: Omaru, New Zealand
✔ Capacity: 19.3MWdc
✔ Modules: ~28,000 66-cell JinkoSolar BDV (TOPCon)
✔ Grid Connection: Completed in 2025
✔ Key Advantage: Optimized for cool, cloudy climates
Why JinkoSolar’s TOPCon Technology Was Chosen
Superior Low-Light Performance: Higher energy yield during early mornings, late evenings, and overcast conditions.
High Bifacial Gain: Captures reflected sunlight from natural terrain, boosting output.
Low Temperature Coefficient: Maintains efficiency even in cooler temperatures.
Long-Term Reliability: Proven durability in demanding environmental conditions.
A Milestone for New Zealand’s Renewable Energy Future
This project demonstrates the viability of large-scale solar in New Zealand, where weather conditions have traditionally posed challenges for PV deployment. By leveraging TOPCon’s advanced efficiency, the solar farm maximizes energy production despite the region’s frequent cloud cover.
Industry & Government Reactions
Michael Wang, General Manager of JinkoSolar Oceania, stated:
“This landmark achievement shows how high-performance solar technology enables rapid decarbonization. Our BDV modules delivered exceptional reliability in Northland’s demanding climate—key to completing New Zealand’s largest solar farm on record time. We’re committed to accelerating the Pacific’s clean energy transition through innovative partnerships.”
